OUR MISCONCEPTION ABOUT THE WILL OF GOD

“This is the boldness which we have toward Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He listens to us.”
-1John 5:14

Just like Hebrew 6, this verse above gives me a strong consolation in Jesus that all my petition shall be granted in due time.

Coming up, I used to misconstrue the verse above and I became complacent with my budding Faith. I know so many Christian reading this verse are faced with the same problem, hence the need to address this topic.

and then… “the way”

We are always misconstruing the fact that this verse says if we ask according to the will of God, that’s when God will hear our prayer. Don’t get me wrong, this is true. Our request will only be granted when we ask according to God’s will. The problem is a lot of us have exchanged God’s will in the context of the verse to mean if God is not giving an immediate answer, it means the request is not according to God’s will.

God sometimes delay the answer to our prayers but He will eventually answer. the fact that an answer is delayed is not a justification that it is not in the will of God because GOD’S WILL IS GOD’S WORDS. Therefore what the verse is actually saying is if you ask according to God’s word, inline with the precepts, haven been obedient to it, you will ask and you will receive.

The truth is if it is according to God’s will, then, you cannot ask amidst or selfishly, therefore the “anything” being referred to in the verse is actually “anything” you desire within the design of God’s plan and purpose. That is why when we pray, we back it up with the scriptures so as to present our “strong reasons” to God.

Therefore brothers and sisters, don’t ask and then let your feelings make you doubt your request because a double minded person will not receive “anything” (as it is in our context) from God. Step up boldly and make your request… Stay with it till there is a response, this is God’s will!
