I HEAR A BROKEN PERSON LISTENING TO KANYE WEST – LECRAE

0

American rapper Lecrae spoke with The Huffington Post about rapper Kanye West and his controversial album Yeezus.

Lecrae has often been compared to West. Upon Lecrae’s first appearance outside of the Christian market in 2011 director of music programming at BET Kelly Griffin, even said, “I will equate that feeling I got when we identified Kanye West.”

When asked about West the Christian rapper replied, “I deeply respect what he’s doing artistically. I do think there’s a lot of brilliance,” he told HP. “There’s a line between being egotistical and being genius or great. And I think he plays with that a lot.”

Lecrae went on to discuss West’s most recent album “Yeezus.”

“I hear a broken person, if I’m going to be honest, when I listen to it,” Lecrae said.

West created an uproar among some Christians which thought using the title Yeezus for an album was “Blasphemous.” Lecrae didn’t go as far but he did express what he thought about the content and skill of the highly publicized record.

“I’d say even the writing, like, from my end, from my perspective it’s not as thought-provoking,” he said. “It feels a little hasty, a little like, ‘Let me just get this off my chest,’ versus, ‘How do I say this in a unique way?”

It will be recalled that Reach Records signee Andy Mineo had sai in an interview that he would love to sit down with Kanye or do a collaboration with him which didn’t go down well with fans.

Lecrae’s has become a household name in the Christian urban market and even in mainstream media. His latest mixtape Church Clothes 2 was released the end of last year.
