DAILY BREAD: SIN IS NOT FUNNY

0

You who have purer eyes than to see evil, and who cannot look on perversity, why do you tolerate those who deal treacherously, and keep silent when the wicked swallows up the man who is more righteous than he” – Habakkuk 1:13

I have read about two books between yesterday and this morning that talked about how the media have trivialized serious issues such as sex before marriage, especially amongst teens, homosexuality, transvestism and the likes.

What both books point out is that this serious issues becomes less serious as soon as humour is used to cloud people’s judgment. Once you can laugh it off, it becomes less immoral and the society can accept it with open hands but SIN IS NOT FUNNY! Just because an idea is popular does not make it right. Remember Sodom and Gomorrah?

Alot of people who are true believers in Christ have strayed into and are still watching trashy TV, listening to trash radio, and reading trashy magazines and novels because the society makes it okay. They build reasons in their mind to justify these things but the bible warns us to flee from the appearance of sin not sin only.

“Whatever you put into your mind is inevitably going to come out in your behavior and your beliefs. It weakens you and it weakens your values because you’ve become accustomed to it. When things don’t bother you any more that is a warning light that you’ve already passed the threshold.

One of the ways Satan tries to get sin and deviant behavior acceptable is to get you to laugh at it. Once you’ve laughed, your barriers have lowered. If Satan can get you laughing at something that is wrong or sinful, you’ve already lost the battle. Sin is not funny. It put Jesus on the cross.” – Rick Warren
