#SELAH'S JOURNAL: FINISHING MY 100 METRES

In today’s Joyce Meyer Devotional, she spoke about finishing the work God sent us to do just as Jesus had spoken about finishing what His Father sent Him to do. I found myself thinking long term and to be honest it scared me a bit.

I mean finishing! I don’t even know where I am now. I’m trying to get through school and finish that and then start on the path I feel God is leading me to and you’re talking of finishing! I had a little panic Attack! I mean! Imagine a new athlete training for 100m and his coach is already telling him of the marathon race he will run. Nothing wrong with that cause thinking long term is important but if pressure is rubbed of the wrong way, you might get a pot of bad beans or rather, it might get people off on the wrong foot and lead to all kinds of things. So for a minute, even though it wasn’t what Joyce intended, I was panicking and wondering if I could really finish.

But then came my hero to the rescue! Before I could put too much unnecessary pressure on myself He stopped me. Finishing is not about starting on a 100m race and then finding out you’re really on a marathon track only to discover that you’re not ready for it. It’s about finishing the 100m race and realizing you have the potential for the marathon. It’s taking it one course at a time, overcoming and finding out you have the potential to be an Olumo rock climber, kilimanjaro or whatever God puts inside of you next.

Sometimes, we get to points in our lives when we realize we can do things we never imagined we could or that God is putting us on a path towards new things we find that we love or are excellent at even though they’re the most unexpected. But at that point, He gives us the grace to do that which He has set in front of us.

So finishing is about taking it one task at a time. It’s about riding on God’s grace per time and knowing what He wants us to do at each point in time. It’s not about being overly worried about the future because of the knowledge we have that God knows the future and that we follow He who knows the end from the beginning. It’s also about trusting Him and willingly following even when you do not understand.

The way of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, which shines ever brighter until the full light of day.” – Proverbs 4:18
