Okay! I’m about to force my opinion on you again like I always do …and get away with! (Wild mischievous grin). Here is a list of songs that have recently made me want to reach for music devices. Not all these songs are particularly new, some were re-released, Others just happened to fall into my hands while the rest are spanking new. I’m sure you will agree with my selection… well, in most cases 😀
Gil – Christian Baller
Gil has proven to be exceptional over and over again. “Christian Baller” just set the bar a little higher for other folks. It’s not about the fact that the song is urban yet Gospel but the ease with which it fitted in. The lyrics sounds to the ears like an everyday conversation of a young Christian and not for one moment will you get that feeling you have with Nigerian urban song lyrics when you discover the artiste is just trying to fill up space. My most favourite line is:
I’mma get that brand new Porsche o and I’m off to church o
Hmmm… talk about the life of the young, rich and righteous!
Aka – Okey Sokay ft. Nolly
Just when you thought Okey Sokay has done it all, he ups the ante yet again. What I like about this music is that it made me discover a part of Nolly of the CIA Movement that I have never seen before. We’ve always known Nolly was a good rapper, we just didn’t know how versatile he is. I like an artiste who can think out of the box and it’s no surprise Okey Sokay is the one to bring it!
Aka – Segun Obe
I know it’s sounding like a cliche right now but honestly, the is the most relaxed I have heard Segun Obe on a song. Yeah, we know all about the vocal prowess, the experience and all but who would have thought Segun could make a dance track that won’t sound like Bruno Mars trying to pull a T-Pain on us?! I love this song and I must have played it like… what… a million times now? Oh well!
When God Speaks – Henrisoul ft. Frank Edwards
Seems everyone is leaving their comfort zone and so did Henrisoul. When I heard Henrisoul was featuring Frank Edwards on a new song, I’d thought for sure, this is one of those Frank Edwards-Ada kind of combo but he pleasantly surprised us with a worship song – I know I’m surprised. And the vocals on those guys – flawless!
Bari Odule – Buchi
Well what do you expect? Trust Buchi to make anybody’s list with the soul soothing vibes of Gospel Reggae. Bari Odule is his latest, he dropped this to mark his 50th birthday… more like the 50th anniversary of flawless victories.
To My Knees – Glowreeyah Braimah
OMG! When SelahAfrik first published Glowreeyah Braimah’s “To My Knees” for streaming, I listened but it was just for the sake of review but then subsequent listening sessions will have my mind glued to the song. (Just like I did with 11th Hour Movement’s “Light Up Cities”). I couldn’t get the chant of “Hey Hey Hey Hey” out of my head and what’s even more is it took me time to wrap the message of the song around my mind, not because I didn’t understand it from the get go but because of the depth.
Your power brings me to my knees
Wow! It doesn’t matter whether you are going through a rough patch in life or waking up to a fairy tale life, God will still awe you as he unfolds your life before you, circumstances and experiences (good or seemingly otherwise) lived in the light of God’s word will bring you to a deep appreciation of His ever present presence that you will drop to your knees in surrender!
I No Fit Shout – Frank Edwards
Who else can release a single almost every week and consistently make the top of playlists if not Frank Edwards? Uber-talented and undoubtedly anointed artiste Frank Edwards told a beautiful story of grass to grace with this song… who knew brother once hawked on the street? God has a great sense of humour!
I No Fit – Chinedu Raymond
Wow! The voice on this man is wow! (Yeah, I just said “wow” twice). Chinedu recently released “In Awe,” one of the best worship songs (in terms of genre) I have heard in recent times and while that has been part of my playlist, I like “I No Fit” better, haven published it on SelahAfrik. The groove and tempo did it for me.
