Bible News: Elijah Thought God Went Bankrupt?! – The 7000 Provisions

The businessman - bankrupt

Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which has not kissed him.” 1 King 19:18

Elisha actually thought God went bankrupt! At a time when the ruling power in Israel was taking out the prophet and everyone turned to worship a small god, he thought they have prevailed and had surplus whereas God had ran out of resources as far as prophets are concerned.

So this mighty prayer warrior who had called down fire from heaven, who held rain back with prayers for 3 years and had done so many wondrous things in the name of the Lord cowered and ran scared all of a sudden? This fire-calling-rain-making prophet ran and hid himself in a  cave because at that point he felt God had ran out.

But Jehovah Jireh, God the provider can never go bankrupt! Can never run out of stock, ideas and resources. When men think all hope is gone and are backed up to a corner, God has got one more joker coming, like Abraham at 100, like the 3 Hebrew children in the fire… God can never run out of ideas. He said as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are His thoughts higher than ours. He knows just how to make the most dire situation work to our favour. He said all things work together for our good.

Elijah tried to tell God he was bankrupt of prophet and therefore he is trying to preserve himself, hence, he ran to the cave, when God asked him “what are you doing here?”

He said they have killed all the prophet in Israel and he was the only prophet left.

While he was still harbouring this in his mind, God gave him instruction for the next level which included a new king for both Israel and Syria, a new prophet in Elijah’s place and to spice it up, 7000 prophets who have not bowed their knees to baal… wow!

So, while Elijah felt he was the only prophet left, God had already preserved… not one, not 100 but 7000 prophets who did not bowed to worship baal.

Think about this surplus supply next time you look around and all you see it scarcity… God is never broke nor bankrupt!
