Africa’s Tallest Statue Of Jesus To Be Unveiled In Imo State

Imo State is gearing up for the unveiling of the tallest statue of Jesus in Africa which will take place on the 1st of January 2016.

The statue which is 28 feet in height is set to be unveiled at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in the Abajah local government area of Imo state.

According to the Cable, the building of the statue was financed and given to the church by Obinna Onuoha who is the founder of Premier Petroleum Limited.

According to a statement by Smatt Ozomena, Onuoha embarked on the unique statue project on January 1, 2014; and just two years after, he is set to unveil it. The statue, which is called ‘Jesus de Greatest’ would be the fifth tallest statue in Africa. It has a total weight of 40 tons and is made of marble. With 161 feet, African Renaissance Monument in Dakar, Senegal, is the tallest statue in Africa after Great Sphinx of Giza in Egypt with 66 feet, and Ramesses II, still in Egypt, which has 30 feet, is the third.

The world’s tallest statue of Jesus is Christ the King in Świebodzin, western Poland, with a height of 172 feet. A graduate of York St. Johns University in the United Kingdom and the Harvard Business School, Onuoha is an indigene of Abajah. He is a devout Catholic, he is married to Nkeiru and they are blessed with four children.
