♠♠♠♠ Service — The Key to Greatness ♠♠♠♠
Hello SelahAfrikans, let’s continue with the sequel to our study on Service – the Key to Greatness. The bible tells us to let the same mindset which was in Christ Jesus to also be in us where service is concerned and it is for a good purpose. Jesus was God but He did not consider equality with God but made Himself of no reputation and came to the world in the form of a man. The bible records that he was obedient to death.
If we can capture and reproduce the mindset in the mind of Jesus while he fulfilled this purpose on earth then we can live a whole life of service which also equates a life of greatness.
This is because more like Jesus, we are gods too but ego, pride and selfishness have made many to lose out on the ultimate prize of success. Some of us even think while we are in church, that’s where our service count the most but I tell you that as much as it is important to offer our services humbly to God in church, it is also important that we offer our service as a form of lifestyle in our community, institution, place of work and everywhere we find ourselves.
Until we learn that we have rights but are also willing to forgo the rights for the greater good, we will have problem fulfilling our God’s giving purposes. I heard a story of a great man, I cannot confirm the story however. He was seated in a plane while a man of God stepped into the plane. For whatever reason, the man of God needed someone to trade seat with him or let go of his seat for the man of God and catch the next flight. Of course, no one was willing to do such due to obvious reasons but this man was the only one willing to let go of his seat, his right. The man of God blessed him that day and he is one of the global phenomenon of our generation today, all because he vacated his seat – he offered his service.
If we continue down the path of Philippians 5, verse 9 says because Jesus so humbled Himself, God also exalted Him and gave Him a name above every other name so that at the name of Jesus, every knee must bow and every tongue must confess Jesus is Lord! What elevation! Jesus paid the ultimate price of service and received the ultimate prize for it. Don’t you think God is still in the business of rewarding faithful service? The extent you are willing to go will determine how far you will be rewarded.
