Selah’s Journal: What Will Happen To People In Space At Jesus Second Coming?

1

This question creates an interesting dilemma but Matthew 24:29 gives a bit of a clue to what will happen in space.

“Immediately after the distress of those days, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.”

We are told that the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light which means that the sun and the moon too will be affected by the second coming.. An indication to the activity in space. But then again, according to studies, the moon does not give light. This makes us see that what the bible uses as signs and references for many things are tied to the limited knowledge of the time, knowledge we have since long surpassed. For centuries, people have been predicting the second coming of Christ, but now we’re in space we have that frontier, something that people back writing the bible never anticipated.

So what happens to people in space at Jesus coming? As many are still trying to wrap their head around the idea because the bible is limited to the knowledge of the time it was written, another verse of the bible comes to mind:

Luke 31:35 (ESV) says “For it will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth.”

The verse above is pretty specific about the location. Does this means the second coming does not include those who are in space? Say planet Mars or in the moon when Jesus return?

Could it be that God was referring to the whole creation where the scripture “the whole earth”? If rapture will not affect space, why else would God create these other places to visit if we weren’t meant to go there? But then again, why did God forbid eve from eating the apple if she was eventually going to eat it?

The answer to the question may however lie in the fact that the bible was limited by the socio-cultural knowledge of the time where the concept of life outside our world wouldn’t have been understood. Having said this, let’s take but we can apply what the Bible says to the question and deduce from Psalm 139:8

“If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there”

“If I go up to heaven” and “make my bed in the depth” already sums up the entirety of space, therefore, will it be safe to say, the entirety of the universe will be affected by the second coming?
