THE ART OF GIVING
“Thus all the work that Solomon made for the house of the LORD was finished: and Solomon brought in all the things that David his father had dedicated; and the silver, and the gold, and all the instruments, put he among the treasures of the house of God.”
– 2 Chronicles 5:1 [KJV]
Giving is a skill that is not innate, it must be acquired. Even as a child, your intuition makes you hold on to things you consider yours and throw a tantrum if anyone tries to take it from you. So, giving is a very profitable acquired skill that keeps giving… Yeah… I didn’t make a mistake repeating “giving” in my definition.
2 Chronicles 5:1 says after Solomon finished building the temple, he brought in all the vessels of gold, silver and instruments which his father David had dedicated to the house of God and put it amongst the treasures.
Treasure means something that is cherished and God always wants a part of that thing you cherish because it’s a sign of worship, a surrender that you do not place that treasured item above Him.
But who would give a treasure to someone else except in the act of love? You know how a mother pass down her engagement ring or something in the family to her daughter on special occasions like marriage, birthday and more? The mother will only do that because of the love she feels towards the child so also, it’s hard to part with your belonging, your money, except in true love towards God.
Now, because God first loved us, we cannot out give Him. Jesus said, give and it shall be given to you, good measure, press down… That means when you sincerely give a part of your treasure (money, service, item) to God, God will give more abundantly back to you.
You want to be successful? Master the art of giving. It is the only principle of success that cannot be applied naturally and works for anyone irrespective of skill, age, status and the likes.
Pay your tithe, give your offerings, be kind to someone for no reason, offer your help and services with sincere concern for your neighbour. When you do all these things you are giving your worship to God!
