– Lecrae wins BET Award

American Gospel rapper Lecrae has won the Best Gospel/Inspirational Award for his song “Can’t Stop Me Now (Destination)” making it his second BET Award.
In his acceptance Speech, Lecrae gave thanks to God and acknowledged the influence of Lauryn Hill, Kendrick Lamar, Outkast, and Chance the Rapper on bringing spiritual influence into hip hop.
Lecrae paid tribute to those Gospel artists that were on the nomination list with him. He said he’s just trying to inspire people and that regardless of who’s doing it, he and others are trying to point people to God.
Lecrae’s late night tweet after the award which gave credit to Chance the rapper for his spiritual influence on Hip Hop however sparked controversy amongst his fans. Some of his fans feel that Chance is playing an opportunistic game by capitalizing on spirituality when he has not really internalized it himself, Gospel singer Kirk Franklin who has spent considerable time with Chance over the last year however said the rapper is making progress.
