Bible News: How Important Is “Fire-Fire” Prayer? | By Alex Amos

This is a condition in which capillary blood vessels that feed the sweat glands rupture, causing them to exude blood, occurring under conditions of extreme physical or emotional stress.

The operative word here is extreme physical/emotional stress. As at the time before His arrest, Jesus was under both! It takes both passion and physical energy to pray earnestly and fervently.

If Jesus our Lord prayed so fervently that His sweat was mixed with blood. Why do Christians think just knowing, confessing and acting the word can replace the place of fervent prayer?

He could have just said; “well I am Jesus, and it is just the cross… I have faith and I will just go to the cross, die and then resurrect on the 3rd day,” but no, he depended on the help from the father – the Holy Spirit – to help him in such hour of temptation. Hence, he prayed with passion and His physical body knew the strain.

We spend some few minutes in prayers and because of our vast knowledge of the word, we conclude that’s all that is needed.

But nothing can replace the place of fervent prayer. Prayers that birth destinies. Jesus lived a life of prayer and in His final hours, the flesh tempted Him to turn back from His mission. Thus He prayed:

“Lord let this cup pass over me…” but then He added “not my will but yours be done.” (Matt 26:39)

You see, it takes the help of the spirit to align with God’s will. On our own, we will veer left and right till we are totally out of the path but fervent prayer keeps us in the spirit, and in the will of God.

It may not necessarily depend on how long you prayed today but how long you have been praying.

Bible says Elijah was a man with a nature like ours… meaning he faced the kinds of discouragement, physical fatigue, challenges, etc that we face, yet he prayed earnestly that it would not rain for 3 years and 6 months… and again he prayed till the heaven gave rain.

Jesus was also fully flesh when he was in the world and he put His physical flesh under subjection to prayer till the flesh gave in to the spirit. 

It is possible today as well to live a life of divinity. Set apart from all others but you cannot do it without a fervent prayer life… and this will tell on your physical body.

Thus, 2 Corinthian 4:16 says:

“For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.”
