Bishop Oyedepo on EndSARS Protest – Why he was silent until now

Bishop David Oyedepo, Senior Pastor of the Living Faith Ministries aka Winners Chapel International, has backed the country’s ongoing #EndSars protest.

Speaking at his church on Sunday morning, October 18, the pastor, who is highly critical of the Buhari-led administration, said Nigerian youth have the right to express anger at the current situation in the country. He said he was still silent on the issue because he had warned Nigeria in 2015.

“Everyone has the right to express their displeasure and resentment,” he said.

“I was silent for a while because in 2015 I warned this nation strongly, because I had seen the dangers ahead and you can tell, the worst season in the history of the nation is the last 5 years where life has no value, unnecessary killings and vandalism have taken place here and there.

“Now they have confronted the youth and because they do not know who is ahead, they have the right to say “enough is enough”. Any system that has no value for human lives is irrelevant. If they had been killed when they were young, would they be there today?

“It would be a sacrilege to shoot the protesters who are not looting, who are not ravaging.

“I’ve been one of the few voices telling these men and women over the last five years that unless you push the goat against the wall, you don’t know it has biting teeth.

“I am here to say the youths have the right to say No. I wish they said it with me when I was shouting in 2015. I wish they did. They wouldn’t be in this trouble today.”

Speaking further, the pastor said

“Look at the history of Nigeria, there has never been a time of more mass casualties than in the last five years, including the slaughter of people in the church, including the beheading of the chairman of CAN. My God! Well, the bad news for every evil spirit behind these impartial killings is that your judgement has come.

“George Orwell’s animal farm is far more civilized than what we see now.”
