The public presentation and launch of biographical book in honour of the General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Church, Pastor Dr Williams Kumuyi held in Lagos last week.

The launch of the book titled ”Kumuyi: Defender of the Faith,” saw the Vice president Yemi Osinbajo, Governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, amongst others coming to honour the renowned man of God.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, during the launch said that Christian leaders owe it a duty to chronicle their journeys in Christendom to encourage others and preach the gospel as well.

He said doing so will aid them in paying their ‘pentecostal tax’. Recall that Osinbajo is also a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

Also speaking at the launch of “Kumuyi: Defender of the Faith,” the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said he had been privileged to at Pastor Kumuyi’s 80th birthday early in the year and described him as a gift to his generation. He noted that he went rom being an academia who helped people solve mathematical problems to helping and teaching people how to solve life problems.

in his remark, Pastor Kumuyi said everyone should pray to be like Jesus Christ.

“Initially, I was praying to be like Charles Wesley,” he said. “But later God opened my mind to change the prayer to that I want to be like our Lord Jesus Christ.

“Everyone here can do the same. For our Lord Jesus Christ said He would empower us to do even greater things than He did. I am not deterred by age as you are as young as your dedication and vision.”

I never knew that the words, The Defender of the Faith, were part of my name and calling. We were in Singapore for a conference with attendees from different parts of the world, and my humble self was required to give a series of messages…

“In Singapore, I met this minister who had studied the meanings of names. For one reason or the other, he had checked the root and etymology of my name, William.

“He told me: ‘Your name, William, means THE DEFENDER OF THE FAITH’. He added that what I’d done there in Singapore was prophetic, a reflection of the mission and vision of a man elected to fight for the faith. Whereupon he prayed along with me. Since that time, I’ve been more conscious of the fact that God called me.”

The book reviewer, Prof. Ayodeji Olukoju, said the 336-page book, divided into 14 chapters, aptly chronicled the life of Kumuyi and his ministry.
