– Bishop Kukah Debunks Attack On His Resident

Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Kukah debunks news of attack at his resident following reports that angry mob burnt down his Sokoto residence on Saturday in protest to the arrest of the suspected killers of Deborah Samuel.

The bishop also commended the effort of the Sokoto state governor, Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal for his prompt declaration of a 24-hours curfew to calm the ongoing protests in the state.

It was initially gathered that during a violent protest that started on Saturday by the youths in demand for the release of the arrested suspects, Bishop Kukah’s residence had been attacked but this is not so.

The rumor has now been debunked by the Directorate of Social Communication of the Diocese, Reverent Father Christopher A. Omotasho who said:

“Contrary to information in circulation, we wish to disclaim that there was an attack of any sort on the residence of Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah.”

Going further, the church revealed that some of her properties were burnt partly while window glasses and church vehicles were also vandalized by the protesters.

He said; “St. Kevin’s Catholic Church Gidan Dere, Eastern By-pass, was also attacked and partly burnt; windows of the new hospital complex under construction, in the same premises were shattered.

“The hoodlums also attacked the Bakhita Centre located along Aliyu Jodi Road and burnt down a bus within the premises but they were promptly dispersed by a team of Mobile Policemen before they could do further damage.”
