– Tributes Continues To Pour In Days After Sammie Okposo death
Friday November 25th 2022, would forever remain unforgettable in the heart of Nigerian gospel music lovers and the MinDustry in General as it happens to be the day she lost one of the pioneers and a visionary leader of the industry, Sammie Okposo, to the cold grip of death at 51 years.
The international award winning musician recently concluded the “Sammie Okposo Praise Party (SOPP)” concert in UK and Nigeria before he reportedly died. While the reports going round said he slumped and died, Hilary Vincent, who happened to be his project manager said he died in his sleep on Friday November 25th.
Tributes and disbelieve has since been the status quo days after the official announcement by his family, Sammie who during the course of his illustrious lifetime evolved beyond the role of a gospel artiste to being a minister, mentor, beacon of hope, carrier of God’s message beyond borders in a career that span over 2 decades amongst others.
The official statement signed by a member of the family, Hector Okposo reads; “It is with a heavy heart but with total submission to God that I announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, Minister of God, Sammie Okposo.
“Sammie slept and went to be with the Lord on the morning of Friday, November 25, 2022.

“More details about the burial will be communicated soon.
“We are consoled because we know that he is with Jesus singing with angels. We kindly request that the family is allowed to grieve peacefully at this time.”
Okposo who began his music career as a soundtrack producer for Nollywood in 1992 but got his first major big break with his evergreen single “Welu Welu” hit in early 2000s.
From being a UN Peace Ambassador to enjoying several years of Globacom endorsement deal, He is the only Gospel artiste to have enjoyed such a major endorsement deal spanning a period of 10 years, and one of the longest artiste to stay with the telecommunication company.
Sammie Okposo has also performed at the annual Silverbird Man of the Year Award, He was part of the artistes on the line up during the campaign of former president Goodluck Jonathan.
Sammie Okposo has performed at the Martin Luther King Day and July 4th Independence day Celebration respectively, by the American ambassador to Nigeria. His SOPP concert has toured many countries of the world.
He is iconic, one of a kind. Some people only comes once in all lifetime, Samiie Okposo is definitely one of such. He stayed relevant throughout his career/ministry of over 30 years, if we count the years of producing soundtrack for Nollywood.
He gave himself not only to the Gospel but to the entertainment sector as well, gave platform and opened international doors to many A-list artists/musicians. He worked on every single project like it was the first! He knew he was legendary but never carried the mindset to his work! He gave his all everytime.
The singer is survived by his wife, Ozioma Okposo and family. May his soul rest in peace, Amen.
