-Anglican Cut Ties With Wales Church Over Lesbian Archbishop

The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has officially cut ties with the Church in Wales after it appointed a lesbian bishop as its Archbishop.

The controversy began when the Church in Wales appointed Bishop Cherry Vann, who is in a same-sex civil partnership, as its new Archbishop. This has sparked criticism from conservative Anglican churches around the world, especially in Africa.

In a statement released this week, the Nigerian church said the decision was made to protect the biblical teachings of the Anglican faith.

Church leaders expressed strong disagreement with the direction the Church in Wales is taking, calling the move unbiblical and unacceptable.

The Nigerian church said it would no longer recognize the authority of the Church in Wales or have any relationship with it. It added that it remains committed to upholding traditional Christian values on marriage and sexuality.

Most Rev. Henry C. Ndukuba, reacting to the Church in Wales’ elevation of a lesbian bishop, said;

“We reject the election of the Right Reverend Cherry Vann as the Archbishop of Wales.”

“Just as the Church of Nigeria took steps after the election of Gene Robinson in the United States, we are severing every tie and relationship with the Church of Wales,” he said.
