Gospel singer Tim Godfrey has revealed in a now-viral video that he was once paid with tubers of yam and a live chicken for performing in a church.
He described the experience as unfair and discouraging, noting that many gospel artists in Nigeria are not properly valued for their work and contributions to ministry.
Award-winning gospel singer Tim Godfrey expressed his frustration over the poor treatment of gospel musicians, admitting that it has made visiting Nigeria increasingly difficult for him.

“I don’t like coming. Okay, I come to Nigeria because it became difficult because of how artists are being treated so badly,” Godfrey said in the viral clip.
“And I want to say it’s all of those stories of why they’re charging? Why are they collecting money? Why are they doing this? It got me so, so mad. I said why are people wicked?
“What sense does it make that people work so hard, and you are saying they should take… I have collected tubers of yams as honorarium.
