Internationally acclaimed saxophonist and recording artist Mike Aremu, also known as King Mike Aremu (KMA), returns with a refreshing and genre-defying new single titled “Happiness Is Free,” released on Friday, March 27, 2026.
Known globally for his distinctive sound and excellence in contemporary gospel and instrumental music, Aremu takes a bold creative departure with this latest offering—an Amapiano-inspired record that seamlessly blends soulful vocals, vibrant rhythms, and his signature world-class tenor saxophone performance.
“This is completely different from my regular releases—you wouldn’t see it coming,” Aremu shares.
At the heart of the song is the compelling Yoruba phrase “Ma m’áyé le.” Speaking on its meaning, Aremu explains:
“It’s hard to fully capture its depth in English without losing something. It loosely means ‘don’t take life too hard,’ but a deeper interpretation would be ‘take life easy—step by step.’”
Originally produced by Aremu himself, the track underwent a creative transformation following trusted feedback.
“The first version was strong,” he recalls, “but after playing it to a friend, I realised it needed a richer interpretation of the sound—and I agreed.”
The final version of “Happiness Is Free” was produced, mixed, and mastered by the highly talented Fome Peter, featuring the angelic and soulful vocals of South Africa-based singer Vera Mthunzi. Together, they deliver a sonically rich and emotionally resonant record, elevated by Aremu’s unmistakable saxophone artistry.
While often recognised as a gospel artist, Aremu intentionally expands beyond traditional genre boundaries with this release. “Happiness Is Free” carries a universal message of love, kindness, and emotional freedom—values deeply rooted in his faith yet expressed in a way that resonates across cultures and audiences worldwide.
With lyrics encouraging listeners to “do good always,” “spread love,” and “love your neighbour as yourself,” the song echoes timeless wisdom reminiscent of the poetic and philosophical writings found in biblical texts such as Proverbs and Ecclesiastes, while remaining accessible and contemporary.
