Bible News: Not Of Works Less Any Man Should Boast

Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.” – Eph 2:9 (NLT)

I remember a time in my life when I equate God’s goodness in my life to how faithful I’d been. I used to think if I can stay away from sin, then God will be good to me but if I sin, then I won’t experience His blessings.

Don Moen wrote a song a little while back where he said ‘God loves you just because He loves you. There is nothing you can do to make Him love you more or less.’

The love of God is unconditional. Bible also makes us understand that while we were yet  sinners, Christ died for us. This breaks any argument we may want to have about the love of God because it is easy to love or give someone something when you’re sure they will return the love or give you something back in return but when God showed His love to us by giving us Jesus, we were still far away from Him.

God hates sin but He loves the sinner. Bible says it is not His will that any man should perish. So you cannot equate the times we fall into sin to the level of His love. One thing that is more is that even when we fall into sin, He readily forgives and expect us to forgive ourselves too so we can move on in our relationship with Him. He expect us to extend the same kindness to others as well so that we do not get eaten up by bitterness.

You may be out there and be trying so hard to please God, or feel the amount of work you put into your serving Him equates the attention you get. I want you to know you are on the right path because it shows you know God is the only one who can give us the abundant life as a reason of the finished work in His Son Jesus Christ but you will be more relaxed and enter into an intimate relationship with Him if you do not wear yourself out trying to please Him. In fact, the love for God can help you overcome that sinful nature because the bible tells us if we love God, we will keep His commandment.

God is not a tyrant, what He seeks from us is fellowship so pause and think… Have I been trying too hard?
