The day 3 of the Social Media Week Lagos went down yesterday and part of the sessions centered around the music industry and its developments. Tagged #SMWMusicDay, music artiste Lynxxx, General Manager, Chocolate City Music Group, Aibee Abidoye, Yinka Adegoke, Editor at Quartz, Andrea Giaccaglia, Project & Business Manager, Chin Okeke, Managing Partner, Eclipse Brand Agency & Eclipse Live AfricaUpfront & Personal, Sam Onyemelukwe, Managing Director, Anglophone Africa, Trace, Adia Sowho, Head Digital media Etisalat Nigeria, and Norden Thurston, Head of Marketing, SBC Nigeria were part of the panel who discussed the relationship between Nigerian artistes and the corporate world.
Lynxx, during the discussion said the artiste should look beyond just monetary value which an ambassadorship deal can earn them but also think of how they can leverage on the opportunity. He said the artiste needs to work more efficiently rather than waiting for investors and sponsors. Andrea Giaccaglia added that if you put value on your work, you won’t have to chase after investors, they will chase after you.
In the session that followed where “Touring” was discussed, music artiste Sound Sultan, Eddie Lawani, Efe Omoregbe, DJ Obi and Liz Hausle Executive Vice President, Marketing, All Def Digital sat as the panel. While Sound Sultan was of the opinion that Nigerian artistes needs to organize personal tours, Now Muzik CEO Efe Omoregbe differed in view saying their should be touring circuits who work with management company and labels to put a reigning artiste on tour.
