A 35 years old Christian Pakistani has been sentenced to death over an allegedly blasphemous WhatsApp message sent to a friend.

The accused, Nadeem James was sentenced to death for a WhatsApp message that appears to be insulting the Prophet Muhammad, the Pakistani government claims. James was accused by his friend of sharing material ridiculing the Prophet Mohammad on the WhatsApp messaging service in the town of Gujrat in eastern Pakistan but according to the argument by the accused lawyer, he is being framed.

Following the verdict, the accused lawyer simply explained that the case there had been a dispute between his client and the friend over a woman while also stating that his client will appeal the sentence in the high court.

“Mr James was handed a death sentence by the court on Thursday on blasphemy charges. My client will appeal the sentence in the high court as he has been framed by his friend, who was annoyed over Mr James’ affair with a Muslim girl.” The lawyer said.

The verdict was passed by a court in the town of Gujrat in eastern Pakistan.
