Senior Pastor of The Potter’s House Church Bishop TD Jakes has spoken against the recently discovered slave trade going on in Libya.
The senior pastor encouraged everyone to speak up and not be silent on the atrocity against humanity using their various media.
“The slave trade that is going on in Libya, and even globally, is an atrocity that has to STOP. We, as a people have to partner together to put an end to this horrific disregard for human life. Here are a few ways you can help:
—Use YOUR voice (Social Media, your community, etc.) to raise awareness!
—Support organizations that give aid to countries from which migrants are fleeing.
—Contact your local officials and become an advocate in the fight against slavery & human trafficking.
We have got to say something…we CANNOT be silent.”
In the light of the development, the Nigerian Federal Government has returned over 200 migrants to Nigeria Tuesday night.
The 242 migrants landed at Lagos airport on a Libyan airline flight at around 9pm local time on Tuesday. Among them were women carrying children and at least one man in a wheelchair.
Nigerian authorities say they worked on returning the migrants from Libya in collaboration with the International Organization of Migration. (IOM).
Following the return of the 242 migrants, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the slave trade saying it is “appalling and unacceptable”.
“The situation in Libya, of people being sold into slavery, is appalling and unacceptable. We will do everything to protect our citizens wherever they might be.”
