– CAN calls on government over Kaduna/Benue Killings
Following the killings of dozens of persons in Kaduna and Benue States on New year day, chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Northern Nigeria, Rev. Yakubu Pam, has called on the Nigerian Government to investigate the murder, including the killing of District Head of Numana kingdom, Dr. Gambo Makama, his wife and two others.
Pam, in a press statement on Wednesday, condemned the unabated killing of Christians in the north and urged government to urgently fish out perpetrators of the brutal acts.
“The attacks on Gwantu, Headquarters of Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna state where the District head (chief of Numana kingdom) Dr Gambo Makama, his wife and two other youths were gruesomely murdered on new year day is condemnable and worrisome.
“Also, we are worried of the attacks in Guma and Logo local government areas of Benue state where over 50 people were murdered in cold blood on same New Year day. This is equally disturbing and worrisome to us.
“CAN is not only condemning in these mayhem and carnage, but is calling for the immediate arrests and prosecution of all perpetrators of these heinous crimes.
“Aware of the repercussions of any reprisals, church leaders are advised to calm their members and report threats to security to the law enforcement agencies as soon as possible.
“We assure that the church will not keep quite but continue to the occasion. We will not take it kindly again should this continue,” the cleric warned.
