Snoop Dogg wins Gospel Award at 2019 BET
Snoop Dogg has won the Bobby Jones Gospel award category at the 2019 BET for his latest collection “Snoop Dogg Presents Bible of Love” which features a Rance Allen-assisted single – the single which took home the award.
The award for Best Gospel/Inspirational did not come without raising eyebrow as many wondered why Snoop Dogg should take home award for the Best Gospel in a category that included Fred Hammond, Erica Campbell and Kirk Franklin.
Reacting to the award on Twitter, a user by the handle @Midesworld said: .
“Wait. I saw a headline, Snoop Dogg won best gospel award at the BET awards?? Someone please help me understand, because……”
@TheKateAllen tweeted:
“Never would I have ever imagined that Snoop Dogg would one be nominated for a gospel award and also win! #BETAwards.”
@FozaDoza tweeted:
“How did Snoop Dogg win Gospel song of the Year please?”
Similar to his Reincarnated album, released under the moniker Snoop Lion, the rap icon experimented outside of the Hip Hop genre with the Bible of Love., apparently BET thinks the collection was good enough to win an award.
Snoop Dogg was unable to accept the award himself because he reportedly skipped the award ceremony to attend Mike Epps’ wedding but took to social media to appreciate BET saying “God is good… Snoop got an award for a Gospel song! Peace!”
