-George Foreman Dies At 76 – Oldest Boxing Champion Passes On To Glory
Boxing legend and minister, George Foreman, has passed on to glory at age 76. His family confirmed.
The former heavyweight champion who fought and lost against Muhammad Ali in boxing’s iconic 1974 “Rumble in the Jungle” before reclaiming the title two decades later, died Friday aged 76, his family announced in a statement.
Known as Big George in the ring, the American built one of the most remarkable and enduring careers in the sport, winning Olympic gold in 1968 and claiming the world heavyweight title twice, 21 years apart – the second making him the oldest champion in history aged 45.
Foreman who was also ordained a minister in the year 1978, and founded The Church of The Lord Jesus Christ in Houston, Texas, in 1980.

In 1977, Foreman retired from boxing after a near-death experience brought him to the Lord. He recalled how in his dressing room in Puerto Rico, he understood the truth of the Gospel for the first time.
Sharing the sad news of his death, his family captioned via Instagram;
“Our hearts are broken. With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr. who peacefully departed on March 21, 2025 surrounded by loved ones.
“A devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grand and great grandfather, he lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose.
“A humanitarian, an Olympian, and two time heavyweight champion of the world, He was deeply respected — a force for good, a man of discipline, conviction, and a protector of his legacy, fighting tirelessly to preserve his good name— for his family.

George Foreman Dies At 76

“Condolences to George Foreman’s family. His contribution to boxing and beyond will never be forgotten,” fellow boxing legend Mike Tyson wrote.
Foreman was married five times throughout his life and he is survived by his last wife, Mary Joan Martelly, whom he married in 1985, and 11 children.
