-Cardinal Electors Elects New Pope – Robert Prevost
It’s all joy all around the world as cardinal electors, elects new Pope, Roberts Prevost.
Robert Prevost who has been elected by the cardinal electors, becomes the first American pope and takes the name Leo XIV.
The newly elected pontiff, now known as Pope Leo XIV, is the first pope from the United States.
Prevost, 69, spent most of his career as a missionary in Peru and became a cardinal only in 2023. The late Pope Francis brought him to the Vatican in 2023 to serve as the powerful head of the office that vets bishop nominations from around the world, one of the most important jobs in the Catholic Church.
In his first words as pope, Leo XIV spoke fondly of his predecessor Francis.

“We still hear in our ears the weak but always courageous voice of Pope Francis who blessed us,” he said.
“United and hand in hand with God, let us advance together,” he told cheering crowds.
Also, addressing the crowd as the new pope, he paid tribute to the late pope Francis, urging the people to remember his legacy of unity.
“We have to seek together to be a missionary church. A church that builds bridges and dialogue,” he said. Speaking in Italian, Leo called on people to “show our charity” to others “and be in dialogue with love.”
