-Seattle Church Raises $70k For Family Who Lost A Child Tragically
Seattle church raises more than $70k for family over a beloved congregant who was tragically killed in a recent shooting.
Jonathan Miles, 38, was fatally shot on July 30 in what police believe was a targeted act of violence in South Seattle. He was a longtime member of New Hope Fellowship Church, where he was known for his kindness, community outreach, and active role in the church’s youth mentorship program.
News of his death sent shockwaves through the congregation and the surrounding community. In response, church leaders launched an emergency fundraising campaign to support Miles’ wife and two young children, who are now grappling with the emotional and financial aftermath of the tragedy.
“We are heartbroken,” said Pastor Elaine Robertson, of New Hope. “Jonathan was a light in this community. We knew we had to do something to support his family, and the response has been overwhelming.”

Within just five days, the congregation—along with neighbors, local businesses, and online donors from around the country—raised over $70,000. The funds will help cover funeral expenses, provide financial assistance to the family, and establish a small trust for Miles’ children.
A memorial service held over the weekend drew hundreds of attendees, many wearing white in a symbol of peace and unity. Emotional tributes from family members, friends, and church leaders painted a portrait of a man deeply committed to his faith, family, and community.
Seattle Mayor Rachel Evans issued a statement offering condolences and commending the community for their response:
“While we mourn the loss of Jonathan Miles, we are inspired by the love and unity his community has shown in the face of tragedy. This is what Seattle is about—showing up for each other.”
Seattle Police are continuing to investigate the shooting. No arrests have been made, and anyone with information is urged to contact authorities.
