-William Kumuyi Reviews Marriage Rules For Deeper Life Church

The General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, has announced major changes to some of the church’s marriage guidelines, clarifying that they are church practices and not divine commandments.

Speaking at the 2025 Global Family and Marriage Conference, Pastor Kumuyi addressed a female member’s concern that single ladies often do not know their prospective husbands well enough since they had previously been restricted from visiting them.

He explained that the church’s long-standing six-month courtship policy was never drawn from the Bible but was introduced to help intending couples avoid sin.

However, he noted that marriage is a lifelong commitment that greatly influences a person’s future, and therefore, couples should have more opportunities to know each other better.

To this end, Kumuyi announced that visits during courtship are now allowed, stressing the importance of seeing a fiancé in his natural environment.

“You’re marrying the man, but he has his mother, his father, his relatives, and other people around him. When you visit, you’ll be able to see how they relate to you and how he responds.

“Some men can be very reserved, answering every question with ‘everything is okay,’ while hiding their true behavior. Our sister is right, and I asked myself—why not? If not, follow them home,” pastor William Kumuyi said as he reviews marriage rules.

The Deeper Life leader emphasized that this new allowance is built on trust, expressing confidence that members will act with maturity and not misuse the opportunity by visiting at odd hours or engaging in inappropriate behavior.

By making these adjustments, Pastor Kumuyi underlined the need to distinguish between church traditions and biblical commandments, reminding members that rules should serve to guide, not to burden, their walk with God.
