-UK Charity Freezes Bank Linked To Mountain Of Fire Ministries
The United Kingdom’s Charity Commission freezes more than 100 bank accounts belonging to the UK operations of the Nigerian-founded gospel ministry Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries International (MFM), founded by clergyman, Pastor Daniel Olukoya.
In a report released on Monday, the regulator said it uncovered deep-rooted governance failures, weak financial control, and the misuse of church funds across MFM’s sprawling UK operations, which grew from a few branches to over 90 locations without adequate oversight.
According to the Commission’s findings, the rapid expansion of the charity to over 90 branches in the UK was not matched by adequate governance systems.

In response, the Charity Commission appointed an interim manager to the UK charity arm in 2019, and recently exercised its power to freeze the charity’s funds and place the organisation under structured remedial governance oversight.
MFM UK has since rejected the regulatory findings, calling the inquiry flawed and disputing claims of frozen assets or trustee wrongdoing.
The action by the UK regulator sends a clear message to faith-based organisations: rapid growth without strong financial controls and transparent governance can trigger serious sanctions—even for religious charities.
The Commission emphasized that trustees must ensure that charity funds are used exclusively for their intended purposes and align with regulatory standards.
