– Suspected Hoodlums Attack Church, Set Vehicles On Fire In Cross River
Suspected hoodlums attack church, set fire to records and vehicles belonging to the Catholic church in Cross River State, leaving behind charred files, burnt-out cars, and a shaken congregation.
The Police Command in Cross River also confirmed an attack on St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Katchuan Iruan in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River.
The spokesman of the command, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, said the attack, carried out by suspected arsonists, occurred around 3 a.m. on Thursday.

He said fire destroyed all church records kept in the sacristy, while the attackers also set ablaze the priest’s Lexus 350 Jeep and a Toyota Corolla parked within the church premises.
“No suspect has been identified at this time. Efforts are ongoing to ascertain those responsible for this unfortunate criminal act.
“Should any suspect be identified, this will be made known to the public.
“So far, the scene has been visited, photographs taken, and the case recorded and referred to Okunde Police Station for discreet investigation,” he stated.
The incident has sparked concern among residents, with many describing it as an attack not only on property but on a community’s spiritual and historical memory.
