Afrogospel artiste Gaise Baba has responded to reactions following his call for greater recognition of faith-based music at the 2026 Headies Awards.
The singer recently urged The Headies to reconsider how gospel and faith-based music are categorized, arguing that such songs should be allowed to compete in mainstream categories based on their artistic quality and impact.
Speaking on the reactions to his position, Gaise Baba maintained that his comments were not an attack on The Headies but a call for a more inclusive awards system.

He argued that the subject matter of a song should not automatically determine the category in which it competes, stressing that faith-based artistes should be able to participate fully in the wider music industry.
His comments followed the announcement of nominees for the 18th Headies, where faith-based music remains largely represented in the Inspirational category. Gaise Baba is nominated for Best Inspirational Single alongside other gospel artistes.
