– Paying Tithes To Mobilize God Is Idol Worship – Abel Damina
Popular Nigerian preacher Pastor Abel Damina has sparked renewed debate within Christian circles over the practice of tithing and giving offerings, arguing that Christians who give money to “mobilize God” are engaging in what he describes as idol worship.
Damina has continued to challenge conventional teachings on tithes, offerings and the belief that financial giving can trigger divine blessings.
In a statement attributed to the preacher, he argued that when Christians give tithes, offerings or sacrifices with the intention of persuading God to act on their behalf, the practice amounts to treating God as someone who must be appeased through material gifts.

The preacher’s position reflects his broader criticism of what he considers transactional Christianity, particularly teachings that associate financial contributions with guaranteed prosperity, breakthroughs or divine intervention.
Damina has previously argued that church offerings and tithes are handled and spent by people rather than literally going to heaven.

He also criticized preachers who teach that paying tithes will cause the windows of heaven to open, arguing that such messages can influence worshippers’ understanding of God’s blessings.
His comments have generated discussions among Christians, particularly between those who support traditional teachings on tithing and those who believe financial giving should not be presented as a means of purchasing divine favour.
