A devastating flash flood hit Camp Mystic, a 99-year-old Christian girls’ summer camp in Texas Hill Country, on 4th of July, 2025, which resulted in the death of 27 girls and counselors.
The camp, located along the Guadalupe River in Kerr County, was caught off guard by the rapid rise of river waters, which surged 26-29 feet in just 45 minutes. Over 750 girls, aged 7-17, and staff were present when the disaster struck.
It was also reported that over 20 girls were reported missing, but the number was later reduced to 10 campers and one counselor still unaccounted for.

Rescue efforts involved helicopters, drones, and boats, with the Texas Department of Emergency Management and National Guard units assisting.
The camp has released a statement expressing their grief and praying for the families affected. They said;
“Our hearts are broken alongside our families that are enduring this unimaginable tragedy. We are praying for them constantly.”
Camp Mystic Director, Dick Eastland, was among the victims of the flooding, with him reportedly dying while trying to save the lives of some of the girls attending the camp.
Camp Mystic staff has asked people for their prayers, respect and privacy for each of the families affected.
