Senior Pastor of Covenant Christian Centre, Pastor Poju Oyemade has cleared the air over his recent article that seems to be countering the views of the residing Bishop of Living Faith Worldwide, David Oyedepo and Christ Embassy founder, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, concerning the closure of churches.

Earlier this week, both Bishop David Oyedepo and Pastor Chris Oyakhilome had publicly criticized the government on the closure of Churches across the country, a move that was put in place to curb the spread of Coronavirus in the nation. The men of God argued that the closure of churches is equivalent to shutting the door on people who needs healing and that the church has a vital role to play in the eradication of the deadly virus in the nation.

Bishop Oyedepo had said that government is targeting churches with its Coronavirus lockdowns.

“For people to be allowed to be in the market for six hours and can’t be in church for two hours, it’s an upside down way of looking at things. There is more hope for a poor and wise child than an old foolish king who would no longer be admonished (Ecclesiastes 4:13). Which one is more orderly? The market or the church? I can smell a rat. The Lord spoke to me so strongly yesterday. I can smell a rat. This is about how do we stop the church from exploding?,” The Bishop said.

Pastor Poju Oyemade had however expressed a different view in an article written 2 days before Bishop Oyedepo’s statement. He said the closure of churches would not hinder the Christian faith. The statement has since led to several insinuations in various media outlets and amongst people in general, some even believed the statement was in reaction to the actions of both Bishop Oyedepo and Pastor Chris Oyakhilome.

In a statement on Saturday, Pastor Oyemade clarified that he had expressed his view in an article long before Bishop Oyedepo spoke. He, therefore, said it would be inappropriate for the media to say he was in disagreement with Oyedepo.

“My attention has been drawn to articles going around some websites that an article I wrote on how one can remain effective during these times was written in response to Bishop Oyedepo’s statement on the closure of churches,” Pastor Poju posted. “That assumption/inference is simply incorrect.

“Facts can easily be verified by checking timelines. My article was written before Bishop Oyedepo spoke. I do understand that certain narratives drive traffic to websites and sowing seeds of division does attract attention.

“I will like to make it clear and on record that my article was written 48 hours before he spoke. In the article, I did emphasized that criticizing other ministries and churches’ operations is not a sign of strength on one’s part, so the article contradicts the conclusions being inferred.”

In the afore mention article, Pastor  Poju Oyemade is of the view that the closure of churches does not in any way stop the Holy Spirit from working.

He made alluded to the book of Acts saying: “The sick healed in the book of Acts were healed on the streets, in people’s homes, in public places and not within the four walls of a Church.”

He said true faith and the anointing of the Spirit has not stopped working even though churches have been shut down.
