– Wife Reveals how Terwase Akwaza a.k.a Gana wanted to Surrender and Work for God
One of the five wives of slain Benue militia leader Terwase Akwaza a.k.a Gana, Wantor Akwa shares details of how her husband wanted to ”work for God” before being killed.
The notorious militia leader who had been on the run for years now and even had a bounty of N10million placed on his head by the government was killed earlier this week in a gun firefight with military personnel.
Following his death, it was later gathered that Gana actually on his way to surrender himself to the authorities after discussing with his wife on how he was tired of his old lifestyle and was even considering working for God.
While sharing details of her last conversation with her husband, Wantor Akwa said:
“I was in Makurdi when they called to inform me of the incident. Senator Gabriel Suswam went to meet him on Saturday because when they went for him on the second amnesty issue, he said if he did not see Suswam, he was not going to come out.
“That until Suswam comes around, he will not believe that the amnesty is true. After the initial amnesty he went back into the bush. When the second amnesty programme started, he was briefing me about the development.
“I spoke with him on Saturday and he told me that he was going for the amnesty and that he is tired of the life he was living.

“He told me that he has worked for too long and that he wants to work for God and be a free man. My husband was not a wicked man. I am not saying it because I am his wife. My husband was not a wicked person.”
Terwase Akwaza AKA Gana started his journey into the crime world as an armed robber while terrorizing the people at Katsina-Ala LGA axis of Benue state before been declared a terrorist by Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom.
Senator Gabriel Suswam has condemned the killing of repentant Militia Leader in Benue State, by men of the Nigerian Army in Gboko on Tuesday. He said the Militia leader was on his way to Markurdi to meet with the state governor, having surrendered when he was ambushed, killed and a gun placed by his side.
Suswam warned that such irrational decision will not fooster the desired peace and restored economy the state desire.
He said Gana was on his way to the governor who was waiting. “His long convoy that included political leaders, Traditional rulers, clergymen and security agencies was ambushed by allegedly armed soldiers and he isolated and taken away.
“In the midst of the confusion, pictures began to circulate on social media of the bullet-ridden body of Gana with a rifle callously placed on his side.
“While I have been consistent in condemning the reign of terror he unleashed on his community, I cannot in good conscience as a lawyer of over three decades and a senior parliamentarian accept cold-blooded extra-judicial murder of an unarmed person as a solution to our security problems.
“The lessons of the Boko Haram escalation after a similar murder of its leader are still here with us.”
