Veteran singer turned Gospel minister Onyeka Onwenu who featured in the film production – Half of a Yellow Sun – was at the premiere of the movie in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
The Elegant Stallion, as she is fondly called depicted “Half of a Yellow Sun” with her men’s fashion Gogo Majin’s GM4FM outfit wearing a black square neck jacket with golden yellow and black ribbon embellishment running half way from top to bottom on one side of the jacket.
Arguably the most evocative literary account to date of the Nigerian Civil War that brutalized the country between 1967 and 1970, the movie is Biyi Bandele’s attractive adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s bestseller Novel. The movie stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Thandie Newton as Odenigbo and Olanna, an upper-class Nigerian couple whose torrid love affair seems to mirror their country’s political strife. Dreamgirls’ Anika Noni Rose co-stars as Olanna’s twin sister, Kainene, whose own relationship with an Englishman (played by Joseph Mawle) brings additional tension to the story.
“Half of a Yellow Sun” made its world premiere in September at the Toronto International Film Festival.
