THE [SOCIAL] MEDIA, SO CALLED ‘CELEBS’ AND THE ELEVATION OF VAIN GLORY

“But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth Me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.”

– Jeremiah 9:24

I am going to be a bit harsh in today’s post, I feel this is sometimes necessary for growth…

As an editor in a media house, I am open to all sorts of information on a daily basis. Most of this information are appalling to me because I wonder how they make the news.

Some ‘so called’ celebrities take pictures of herself or himself on holiday, on some Island and post it on Instagram, next thing you know, it fills the media who serve it to readers and a big deal is made out of a mole hill.

…by the way, I wish we feast on God’s word more… like we feast on celebrity news and gossips.

Other times, a ‘so called’ celebrity buys a new expensive car and knowing fully well that the media will feast on it, post the picture of the car on Instagram, some will even add the caption “my new whip… Thank God” or something similar.

My problem with the second illustrations is; are they really thanking God or glorifying themselves?

Obviously in both illustrations, the celebrities know the media will feast on the pictures and disseminate it to the masses, most of whom are going to be in awe of the celeb and the acquired ‘whip’ or expensive holiday getaway.

Self glorification has become so embedded in us as humans and I can tell you it is born out of selfishness – that seed that is saying “me, me, me… and others can worship me.” It has even gotten to the stage that celebrities are now titling their album such blasphemous names but in their foolishness, Jesus is still being preached.

God said if I am lifted up, I will draw all men unto me. Do you want to really be successful? Do you want peace of mind and satisfaction with that success? Then forget about yourself and let God take all the glory because it is not about you, it is about God. He created us for His glory.Jesus said, if you abide in Me and I in you, you will ask what you want and it will be done for you (and the interesting part follows), by this the Father is glorified.

This makes me certain that more than you ask, God wants to give so that He can be glorified in your life but we miss it when we seek for self, forgetting its all about God, not material possession or a vain knowledge of success.

Take a look at the lives of ‘most’ (I said ‘most’ because their are some who have encountered the true knowledge) of this celebrities, is that who you really want to be admiring? If you want to admire a real celebrity, then look onto Jesus!
