“For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.”
– Roman 10:11
The word of the lord said, “I will give you praise and fame in every land you have been put to shame.” Take it from someone who once knew shame by name, shame will cripple your growth if you don’t take aggressive measures to walk out on it. Yes, that’s rude right but that’s the way you treat an enemy. I do not know shame anymore, I can’t even remember how it felt because I stubbornly held on to what Christ has already accomplished for me.
Let Joyce Meyer held us shed light on this:
When a person has a shame-based nature, as I did, it becomes the source or root of many complex inner problems, like depression, loneliness, isolation and alienation. All kinds of compulsive disorders are rooted in shame: drug, alcohol and other chemical addictions; eating disorders like bulimia, anorexia, and obesity; money addictions like stinginess and gambling; sexual perversions of all kinds, the list is endless.
For example, workaholism is a very destructive disorder in our society today. There are people who are such workaholics that they can never enjoy life. Unless they’re working day and night, they feel irresponsible. In fact, some people are like I was, if they’re enjoying themselves, they feel guilty about it.
You might struggle with workaholism like I did, or yours might have a different shame-based struggle. The point is, shame can ruin us.
But we don’t have to let it. When we believe in God and give our lives to Him, He removes our shame. Jesus died to cover our mistakes so we can live in God’s presence as His children.
If shame is attacking you, it’s time to remember the truth: God loves you, and if you’ll believe in, adhere to, trust in and rely on Him, He’ll take your shame away.
