“And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”- Matt 16:18 KJV
You have often heard the saying attitude determines altitude. It is true but do you know that something greater than good attitude – rather combined with good attitude can also be a propeller for one’s altitude?
When Jesus was asking is disciples about his identity and how he has been defined by people. Simon Peter was the only one who had – at the time caught the revelation of who Jesus really is. After he said Jesus is ‘Christ the Son of the living God’, Jesus blessed and told him it was a revelation by the Spirit. What was however more was what he said next.
All Peter had was the revelation of who Jesus is but it was a great revelation, enough for Jesus to start the work of generations to come on.
Thus, Jesus said ‘on this rock’ (which can also mean ‘on this solid truth/foundation/revelation’) ‘I will build my church’.
So we see that although Peter at the time may not have received the Holy Spirit and all but the revelation of Jesus which he had was big enough to determine how high he will rise.
God deals with us according to the measure of our faith (Rom 12:3) and the greater knowledge of Christ we have, the level of increase we will experience (2Per 1:2), so since we can only come to more knowledge of Jesus as we behold the word (2 Cor 3:18) and then receive the revelation of the Word, it is paramount to make the word a habit so as to receive revelation that will bring about higher altitude.
As you get into the Word of God, what you will see is the face of Jesus, the more you look on the face, the more you become familiar with it, and that will determine what you know about Jesus – just like Peter – the more you know about Jesus as you look on His face, the higher you will go because of the revelation.
People wait for prophets and fortune teller to reveal things to them but I tell you that everything you need to know is in the face of Jesus… Get familiar with him, get familiar with the word!
