“And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves.” – Mark 11:17

God uses our situation and circumstances to draw us closer to Him so like Jesus prayed fervently to God to take this cup away from Him,  there are times we are praying that God take away a sickness,  gives us breakthrough in our career,  marriage and more but God seems to be delaying,  the situation seems not to be improving and we become frustrated.

I will like for you to note that the same Jesus who told God to take away the cup of suffering also included that ‘yet not my will but Yours be done’,  which means if God does not take the cup away,  it means He is using it to work out our good,  no matter how excruciating the pain may feel.

When Jesus got into the temple at Jerusalem and saw in the house of prayer those who are supposed to be worshipping and drawing from the presence of God,  turned the house to a place of bargain,  the Bible said he drove them out and would not let anyone even carry anything across the temple.

It is similar to how we treat the presence of God in our lives. Instead of us being completely sold out to God inspite of what we are going through knowing fully well that He is using the situation to make us a better version of ourself if we let Him,  we cut down on our time of prayer,  we cut down on how often we go to church because we don’t feel like it,  we cut down on our services to God because we feel God must not be interested in our lives because of what were are dealing with.  As a matter of fact,  we cut down on our deal with God because we feel he has not kept His end of the bargain.

What we do when we do this is become thieves who are only seeking where they have not planted or invested. When you pray to God for a need,  you are only withdrawing from the deposit you have made in His presence and God is the manager in that bank.

Let me also shock you. Your deal with God is not a bargain! It is a completely sold out situation!  That means,  either good or bad,  I will still follow God because when you were ‘bad’, that was when He showed the greatest love to you by sacrificing His son for you!

So go and close the market,  toss the contract into fire and next time you are at the house of prayer (either in church or you carry the presence anywhere),  know that you are there to give,  it is God who decide when and how you receive!
