Randy Wagner of Rosharon, Texas, drove to Louisiana and purchased an Aqua dam, a system of tubes that are filled with water to serve as one giant sandbag when the Brazos River Authority issued a flood warning in his side of Texas.

He knew he had to take drastic measures after the thought of his family being relocated was ‘heartbreaking’. An internet search led him to Aqua Dams, and he drove to Louisiana to purchase one measuring 400 feet long and 30 inches high. Wagner said he knew God led him to the website.

“I think God had a hand in it. He put me on the right website, at the right time and gave me the warning I needed to act. He has a large part in the success of my family…” He said.

He paid $8,300 for the dam but said it was nothing compared to the $150,000 loss he could have suffered. He said many laughed at him as they walked by his house before the flood but today, they are impressed at the initiative.

“‘I was the crazy guy. Everybody was kinda going by, laughing at me. But today they are really impressed with this Aqua Dam.”

With the help of two others, Wagner filled up two watertight tubes held together inside a woven polypropylene tube, which conforms to the ground and creates a seal that prevents leaks.

The weight of the water inside the tubes kept the barrier firmly in place as the flood water eventually rose to 27 inches.
