The SelahAfrik Revelations of the year list highlights the artistes who moved into a considerable measure of more prominence through the cause of the year due to their releases or activities revolving around their music. In layman’s term, these artiste ‘blew up’ during the course of the year
Same OG
Same OG is probably the loudest female Hip Hop artiste this year. Having released the “Unveiled” EP for free download, allowing her fans and everyone at large, free access into what makes the female emcee tick. Little wonder major features poured in for her in multiples including SelahAfrik, BellaNaija and The Nation Nigeria.
From the get-go, Same OG has been an artiste per excellence. It is to her advantage that she is not only creative with her presentation but also with the content of her craft.
It is only right that she surmounted great feat this year as her tenacity is off the roof. Since the release of “I Ball” in 2016, her releases have not seen sabbatical. She followed the single up with an outstanding lyrics video, and just when one must have been thinking she would have called it a day with such an amazing effort, she released an even better video to compliment the effort.
The release of her “Unveiled” EP with such a loud thud which got the ‘gospophere’ buzzing and the reception that followed cemented the fact that Same OG is not your average Joe.
Kelar Thrillz
There is hardly another Hip Hop artiste with such spiritual depth and professionalism which Kelar Thrillz displays.
With only one release this year, Kelar Thrillz managed to stay relevant through the year with related contents. His wisdom nuggets series via his social media paved the way for the release of the single and the video for “No Rejection”.
He was also listed amongst the young and prominent Gospel Artiste for the year. Kelar Thrillz enjoyed an ample number of events during the course of the year because of his style of music and numbers of hits including wavemaking “Akagi”.
Eunice U.
One of the very new entries into the Gospel Mindustry, Eunice U. came prepared taking the ministry by storm with the release of “Ogheneme” video and audio. She intensified with the release of “Happily Victorious (LIVE)” album. The very successful release established Eunice as a brand to reckon.
The video and audio release of “Great is your Name” crowned her releases for the year but Eunice is not yet done. With the #GreatisyourNameChallenge ongoing, Eunice has beautifully pulled a feat that takes more than a year for an artiste naturally.
Neon Adejo
Neon Adejo is arguably the most sort after next-rated artiste. In August of 2017 only, Neon had over 7 ministrations across the country including Benin, Lagos and Lokoja.
He is one of the lead vocalists of House on the Rock Church, Lagos and has shared stage with international acts. Neon launched his album earlier in the year title “The Awakening” at LifePointe Church. The concert which held on the 19th of May had Timi Dakolo, Sammie Okposo, Onos, Segun Obe, amongst others, on the list of performance.
His releases include “More” featuring US Gospel artiste Rae Ellis, “You are Great”, “Yahweh” featuring Onos and “All to Jesus” featuring Eric Arubayi (of blessed memories) and Lauretta Cookie.
Uche Monye
Uche Monye is diligent and consistent. A diamond gradually emerging from the rough. If she keeps at the pace, Uche will rob shoulders with prominent urban and contemporary Gospel artistes in the coming years!
Just before the release of “The GraceLand” album earlier in the year, Uche showed us another dimension to her craft when she released the Afropop/Hip Hop single “I Pass Them”. She emitted so much confidence with gracefulness on the track you will see the lyrics before you comprehend them.
“The GraceLand” album was launched with a successful concert in Port Harcourt and saw Gospel greats including Victor Atenaga, Afy Douglas and Onos joining her on the list of headliners.
Uche Monye has since followed up with the release of the video for the song “Yahweh” which was directed by Seun Williams.
