SelahAfrik’s projections for breakout artistes that will shape Nigerian Gospel music 2021
With an amazing year for the Gospel in 2020 as shaped by the likes of Ada Ehi; Sinach, Sammie Okposo, EeZee Conceptz allstars namely: Mercy Chinwo, Judikay and GUC, it is apparent that 2021 is going to get even bigger for the Gospel.
The likes of singer Yadah and AfroGospel artiste Limoblaze gained entrance into the A-List and we saw great potentials from many other. It is another year but the story is still unfolding. Our expectations are high and we are looking out for some breakout artistes who will put the Nigerian Gospel on the map for 2021… SelahAfrik gives you a list of the 7 with the most potential! See below.
Limoblaze
Urban AfroGospel artiste Limoblaze had a very good year in 2020 and judging by the attention the artiste is enjoying, especially on the international scene, 2021 is bound to be even a bigger year.
Limoblaze enjoyed major collaborations including featuring Ada Ehi; and also featuring on Ada Ehi’s “Born of God” album. He also added a joint album with American Christian rapper Da’Truth titled ‘Bridges’ to his ever growing discography and also featured on Reach Records‘ 2020 playlist.
2021 is bound to be a bigger year for Limoblaze with more numbers on stats as the vibrant rapper/AfroGospel artiste does not seem to be hitting the breaks anytime soon.
Yadah
Yadah began surmounting feats with the release of “Beyond Me” in 2019, although it took atleast a year before she followed the effort up, “Beyond Me” was such a powerful release that it sustained the margin.
“Onye Inaputara” which was the follow up single in 2020 proved to be viable. The single spent 2 month on IACMP’s official Nigerian Top 10 Chart and also attracted a number of covers. Yadah did not waste time to follow up the effort and with what is obtainable, the trend of life-changing, spirit-stirring songs is the order for the young artiste. All she has to do now is release more work… we are not worried about the quality of the content!
Minister Tracy
Minister Tracy who has been steady building a loyal fanbase revamped the sound of the Eastern Nigerian Gospel to produce the single “I See Miracles,” a lead single for the album “Heaven’s Sound.” The result is an instant hit and more attention for the ministry of delectable diva.
Good thing the album dropped thereafter because it could have been easy to conclude that the hit was a fluke. However, “Heaven Sound” album boast of more hits such as “Kosobabire,” “He is Risen,” “Overflow” and many more.
Gbenga Akinfenwa (Phatstrings)
With the trend of releases from Gbenga Akinfenwa (Phatstrings), 2021 may be a breakout year for the Gospel music minister/producer.
During the lockdown, while on a spontaneous worship, Gbenga Akinfenwa, alongside RotimiKeys and Jeremiah Music had rendered a song titled “Amen,” which somewhat went viral after it was posted online.
Many people actually requested that a link be posted so they can buy or stream the song. Towards the tail end of 2020, he released “Oba To Nja Funmi,” the impact was undeniably incredible, making it obvious that he is one to lookout for this year.
Neon Adejo
The relentless Neon Adejo had a good run last year, with ample number of projects including an EP by the Fire Nation Worship Group, a team led by Neon Adejo. He crowned the year with the video for the amazing 2019 single “Chinecherem.” The release of the video was a boost for the single and gained the attention of many including Trace Gospel.
The Gospel music minister has always had the attention of the Gospelsphere since “Glory Maker” became an anthem, but with the number of feats under his belt from the previous year, Neon Adejo is on the radar for Nigerian Gospel music 2021.
Wati
While Wati has a number of viral covers, gaining her social media followership and features, it will be amazing to have a breakout single from the Gospel music minister this year. This is a feat we anticipate and if the Gospel music minister does not close shop, 2021 may just be the year!
She dropped “I See” towards the end of 2020… the single with the beautiful complementing video still holds lots of potentials for 2021. Our fingers are crossed as we project Wati as one of those to shape Nigerian Gospel music 2021.
Aghogho
Consistency pays and Aghogho knows a thing or 2 about that! She came into the scene with an aim for the top. Presumably, there must have been hurdles along the way but the music minister has definitely caught our attention.
“Wekobiro,” featuring Onos Ariyo, was the stroke that broke the camel’s back last year. The single became a toast of the terrestrial media, just as it enjoys rave reviews online.
Already, Aghogho has started gearing up towards the release of an EP for 2021. That just tells one the music minister is not slowing down just yet.
