– Nigeria Christians Facing Persecution Raises Alarm For Safety In The Country

Nigeria Christians facing several persecution have stirred controversy within the Christian community, raising concerns about the safety and well-being of believers.

One tragic event happened on Christmas Eve in Plateau State, where over 100 Nigerians lost their lives in an attack by bandits. Reports indicated that the conflict between the nomadic herders and farmers has contributed to the ongoing violence, leaving a trail of destruction and grief among the villagers.

Taking a look back, the case of Deborah Samuel Yakubu, a second-year Christian college student, who was killed by a mob of students in Sokoto after an alleged blasphemy against Islam, highlights the vulnerability of Christians in certain areas.

Similarly, on June 5, 2022, a mass shooting and bomb attack took place at a Catholic church in Owo, Ondo State, resulting in the deaths of at least 40 people, with some estimates reaching as high as 80.

These acts of violence against Christians, coupled with the alarming number of Christian killings, as highlighted by Solomon Buchi‘s Instagram post claiming over 70,000 Christian deaths without arrests or convictions, have deeply troubled the Christian community in Nigeria.

In light of these distressing instances, we should encourage dialogue and understanding among different religious groups in Nigerian because it will play a key role. By engaging in respectful conversations and actively seeking to understand one another, we can contribute to bridging divides and promoting peaceful coexistence.

Secondly, seeking justice is of utmost importance. It is essential for the Nigerian government, in collaboration with Christian associations, to prioritize thorough investigations into acts of violence against Christians.

Identifying and apprehending the perpetrators will not only ensure justice for the victims but also serve as a warning to future attacks. Additionally, providing support and protection to affected communities is important in rebuilding trust and enabling Christians to practice their faith without fear of attacks.

The instances of violence, such as the tragic events in Plateau State, the attacks on Christians like Deborah Samuel Yakubu, the Catholic church bombing in Owo, and the widespread unconvicted Christian killings, have sparked controversy within the body of Christ.

To prevent further destruction, Christian associations should actively promote dialogue, understanding, justice, and collaboration with the government to safeguard the rights and safety of all Christians in Nigeria.
