The cause of death for Grammy-winning singer Mandisa Lynn has been revealed weeks after she passed away.

Mandisa Lynn Hundley was found dead at her home on April 18. Her father addressed rumors during her funeral, saying, “She did not harm herself.” The official cause of death was complications from class III obesity, which is classified as a natural cause.

Mandisa was known for her uplifting songs like “Overcomer” and “Stronger,” which touched many fans. In 2022, she published a book titled “Out of the Dark”, where she shared her struggles with depression. She hoped her book would help people talk more openly about mental health. “Ultimately,” she said, “Psalm 40:3 is my prayer for it… I hope it will encourage people to walk through it with God.”

Her lively spirit and powerful voice made her a favorite on American Idol in 2006, leading her to success in contemporary Christian music. Her albums, including “True Beauty” and “Overcomer”, reached No. 1 on the Billboard Christian charts. Friend Sydni Simons shared, “She was passionate about unity, and she was intentional about diversity.”

During her funeral, author Beth Moore celebrated Mandisa’s talent, saying, “Every word, whether sung or spoken, hit a resonant chord with her audience.” Mandisa’s father shared that her favorite song was “Bleed the Same,” which calls for unity among all people. Mandisa won a Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album for “Overcomer”, leaving behind a legacy of love and faith.
