The victims were kidnapped in May when heavily armed men invaded schools in Oriire Local Government Area, abducting dozens of pupils, teachers and the school principal.

The incident sparked widespread outrage and renewed concerns over the safety of schools in the South-West.

Authorities said the victims were freed following sustained security operations. The Presidency commended the military, intelligence agencies and other security personnel involved in the operation, describing the rescue as a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and restore public confidence.

Residents and stakeholders have expressed gratitude over the victims’ safe return while urging the government to strengthen security around schools and ensure those responsible for the abduction are brought to justice.

The release marks the end of a traumatic ordeal for the principal, teachers and students, whose abduction drew national attention and heightened concerns about the growing threat of kidnapping across Nigeria.
