– Gaise Baba Questions Headies Over Sidelining Gospel Category
Afrogospel artiste Gaise Baba has questioned The Headies’ recognition of gospel music, asking what song released in 2026 has had a greater cultural impact than “Favour” and “No Turning Back II.”
Gaise raised the question in an open letter to the organizers of The Headies, following the announcement of nominees for the 18th edition of the awards.
“Favour,” by Lawrence Oyor, and “No Turning Back II,” by Gaise Baba and Oyor, were nominated in the Best Inspirational Single category.

The singer argued that faith-based songs should be judged on their artistic quality, cultural influence and impact rather than being confined to inspirational categories.
He also questioned the decision to limit gospel records from competing in broader categories, noting that the subject matter of a song should not determine its artistic value.
Gaise further criticized The Headies over his experience at the previous edition, claiming that the Inspirational Music category was not presented during the ceremony despite nominees attending the event.
