– Enoch Adeboye Addresses Placard Controversy – ‘It Wasn’t Protest’
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has addressed the controversy surrounding a viral photograph of him carrying a placard, which was widely circulated with claims that he participated in a protest against former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The cleric explained that although he carried a placard, the exercise was not a political protest against Jonathan but a prayer walk organized in response to concerns over insecurity and killings across the country.
According to him, the exercise followed a directive from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), which encouraged churches to organize prayer walks around their premises to seek God’s intervention in the nation’s security situation.

“True, I carried a placard. I can’t deny that. It was important. It was a prayer walk. We wanted to pray,” Enoch Adeboye said as he addresses the placard controversy.
He further explained that the photograph showing him dressed in white and green while holding a placard was taken during the exercise in Ebute Meta, Lagos.
“But I carried the placard in 2020. Jonathan ceased to be president in 2015. I carried the placard five years in the second term of Buhari,” he stated.
He stressed that journalists have a responsibility to verify information and investigate stories before publishing them, noting that the alleged misrepresentation was widely accepted without sufficient fact-checking.
The clarification comes amid renewed public discussions about the cleric’s comments on national security and his perceived position on the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
