SELAH’S JOURNAL: A CITY SET ON A HILL

You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.’
– Matthew 5: 14-15

Pondering on these words, I realised that it’s an established truth according to the Bible that we are the light of the world. It also says that no one lights a lamp and placed it under a bushel. This got me wondering about where this light is meant to shine.

It struck me that wherever we find ourselves is not by coincidence or mere luck but for us to shine! Circumstances set us in places that sometimes seem unfavourable and not conducive but if we really think of it, we aren’t really there for ourselves, but for the light we ought to shine, and the lives we ought to change.

It then is our responsibility to figure out exactly what God had in mind when He put us there and make sure we shine as bright as we can.

It might be through our talents, gifts or attitudes, but whatever it is, we must-

‘In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.’ – Matthew 5:16
